Dr. Joseph Leinders

Joseph (Jef) Leinders has a Master’s Degree in Geology and a PhD degree in Geology & Paleontology (Utrecht University, NL). He is Associate Professor at the School of Science of the Open University of the Netherlands (OUNL) and has ample experience in distance education and e-learning. In the 1990s he was one of the founding fathers of the ‘Global Seminar on building sustainable environments and secure food systems’. The Global Seminar – a consortium lead by Cornell University (USA) – received a prestigious award for innovation in distance education, and formed the basis of the current VCSE-course ‘European Virtual Seminar on Sustainable Development’. Dr. Leinders is chairman of the exam commission of the OUNL Bachelor and Master programmes in Environmental Sciences. His special interests are zoology, earth sciences and innovative approaches in science education.
