Prof. Dr. Friedrich M. Zimmermann

Friedrich M. Zimmermann (1951, AT) is Chair of the Institute of Geography and Regional Science, and former Vice Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, at the University of Graz. He is also Vice President of the Austrian-Canadian Liason Group and Vice President of the “Center for Border Areas Studies”, Tarvisio, Italy. His research experience focuses on the fields of regional development and regional studies, with special emphasis on border areas, using sustainable and holistic approaches to study the effects of regional policies in Europe on rural and urban areas. He additionally focuses on tourism planning and prognosis and is a consultant for private and public institutions. He works with several international and interdisciplinary research teams and is member in a wide range of national and international organizations. He was also awarded Fulbright fellowships in the US in 1991 and 1994.
