About me

I'm 24 old student from small village near to Prague called Modletice. I study demography and social geography. My hobbies are sport(cycling and floorball) and music (I play the guitar and have some "songwriter's ambitions") also I like watching documentary films about nature and technologies, so i'm glad i haven't got any special documetary channel on my TV, couse I'm afraid it would chained me to the screen:).

Sustainability

I know the Malthus's population theory haven't been confirmed in real life already, couse efficiency of obtaining new resources has rapidly incriesed due to technological progress. But i still think there are limits and it's clear, cause when all people all over the world have the same consumption it would collapse "in a second". I believe in three main paths: "birth control", technology development and thing i would called "Don't buy what you doesn't need" and naturally there's a big discussion behind these points.

I have to say i disagree with some radical opinions that we should not trasfer commodities on long distance or that we should separate our economy, couse there is complicated mechanism behind it. Related problem is opinion that we should not eat food which doesn't groove in our country and we should support our farmers. But when we do so (like subsidy-system in EU), we break the chance for farmers from Africa to do their bussiness and make money, which generates more values in the secondary effect. But i agree that buying something from long distance, which is the same like from "homeland" and perhaps it's even more expensive, is really madness. I know i haven't mentioned something like humility, education and knowledge I even haven't mentioned ecology point of view. I only know it has to work together and it's very complex and hard to understand across the disciplines. And one more funny fact I know from university: now sustainability doesn't work (i would be happy if just our lecturers were pessimists;).

But the question was "What the concept of sustainability means to me?": It means the common goal of human society to me in general view. It means the type of life style, tendency to change life style or influencing others' life-style in personal view.
